With Peter Pushman away on holiday it was left to Grahame Walkingshaw to represent Woods alone when Colchester Indoor Bowls Club took on Jacks Bowls Club (from Latchingdon near Chelmsford) in a County league match at the weekend and came away with a 9-4 victory. CIBC won on all three home rinks, while Jacks won on two of their home rinks. At home the shot count was 83-52 in CIBC’s favour. At Jacks the home side won 59-49. Overall, CIBC won the shot count 132-111.

Home rinks:
Darren Deller, playing with, Brian Smith, Graham Heard and Nigel Jenner went up against Jacks skip C. Sage, M. Watts, K. Barber and G. Williams. The visitors were very soon in trouble and were trailing 16-2 after 6 ends. CIBC maintained a strong grip on things and were leading 24-7 after 14 ends. The final score was 29-13.
Mitchell Springett had in his team, Mark Garrett, Kevin Smith and Jamie Coleman. They went up against Jacks skip, A. Winn, and his team, C. Kippin, S. Gaiger and I. Finch. For the first 13 ends it was a very close game with the home side in the lead, 11-10. An 8 on the next end plus another 7 shots over the following 3 ends put the home side out of sight, 26-10. While the hosts chilled Jacks won the last 4 ends but lost the game 26-17.
Skip Andy Smith and his team, Robin Piggott, Martin Hogg and Tom Smith found themselves in a very tight match. They jumped into a quick 8-0 lead after only 3 ends and were still going well after 8 ends, as they led 17-4. They went off the boil for the next 7 ends and found themselves behind, 20-21 after 15 ends. The scores were tied 22-22 after 18. CIBC won the last three to finish winners, 28-22.
Away rinks
CIBC skip Dan Rodger had Peter Leatherdale, Grahame Walkingshaw and Dave Hunt in his team. They were up against Jacks skip P. Glassock, J. Kenton, P. Friend and R. Wheate. In a tight, low scoring game CIBC led 7-3 after 7 ends. After another 7 ends they still led, 12-7. The final score was 17-10 to CIBC in a game where the highest score on any end was just 2 shots.
Malcolm Stark played with Brian Finney, Tony Wilson and Ian Harris. The Jack’s skip was J. Ferris, plus Chris Corneluis, W. Davey and P. Nokes. After 8 ends the scores were tied 8-8. Unfortunately for CIBC they only won 1 of the following 9 ends (4 shots) and trailed 12-27 after 17 ends. Jacks won the match 26-17.
CIBC skip Martin Spence playing with Geoff King, Ian Reeves and Tony Dale. They won 9 of the first 13 ends and looked good on the scoreboard, 14-6 ahead. They then lost 7 ends in a row to trail 14-21 after 20. Jacks won the game 21-15.
