Colchester Indoor Bowls Finals - April 25

On Friday evening Mark Dines, paired with ex Woods player Brett Macklin, had a tough match in the Novice Pairs against two county league players, Brain Finney & Martin Hogg - a close start swung away from Mark and Brett as they conceded two three's in successive ends. The strong pairing of Martin Hogg & Brian Finney played some outstanding bowls to see out victory in this 21 end match.

On Saturday it was the Pro-Am Triples final between Sharron Lunnon, Graham Barker, Kevin Smith v's Andy Johnson, Ian Reeves, Roland Harden - this match looked too close to call and despite Graham Barker's team taking an early lead of 8-0, they were pegged back by the opposition and went 9-8 down, the lead kept changing at every end but with Andy, Ian & Roland picking up a five to move 20-15 ahead with three ends to play it looked like a final defeat for Graham and his team. However, they picked up a 2 at the next end for 20-17 and when Sharon Lunnon picked up a 1 at the penultimate end with her final bowl, they were still in with a chance. Graham Barker drew two bowls to 6 inches from the jack on the final end to ramp up the pressure. Sharon drew in a third with her final bowl of the match - Ian Reeves played a heavy bowl into the pack and knocked another shot in against himself to lose a four for a final score of 22-20 and a win for Woods Player Graham Barker and his team.

On Sunday, it was Grahame Walkingshaw v's Nigel Jenner in the final of the over 60's competition. Grahame got off to a flying start and raced into a 14-0 lead, Nigel scored a 2, 1 and 1 to make it 14-4 and was sitting with three shots around the jack at the next end before Grahame playing a running bowl hit the head and the jack spun to his bowl to pick up one. Although Nigel picked up a three at the next end, the written was on the wall when Grahame picked up two 2's to make it 19-7. Nigel saved the game with his last bowl at the next end but Grahame was not to be denied with 2 drawn bowls to within six inches on the final end for a 21-7 victory.

Well Done to all involved
